142: Enbeaked Onion Rings

We kick it off with some beer brags. Jeremy touts out a new brewery and wurstery that he went to. Michael has Jeremy guess the country of origin for his beer. Then we begrudgingly take on with the Christmas stuff. Michael and Jeremy try their hand at a quiz about Christmas songs. Somehow, Billy Crystal and Spike Jonze are involved. Then it is off to Toyland, as we discuss the top selling toys of yesteryear with some fond and some not so fond memories. Finally, it is time for a completely not festive FDR, which is refreshing on multiple levels.

141: Uncle Burt's Suds

We start off with beer brags. Jeremy had an Easy Eddie (sp?) while playing "trivia" - the fix was in. Michael brags about two heavy hitting brews - a quad and Black Butte XVIII. Then it's time for Jeremy on the Aisle! Jeremy gleefully reviews recent films he's "scene" in this jaunty segment. Michael discovers a movie he might actually want to watch. Then, Let's Feud. Google Feud. We try, but mostly fail at this game. Then the FDR. Will it be like The Giver and give us warm memories of summer while we try to escape from a fierce dystopian hellscape as we trudge through the snow? Did that kid die at the end of that book?  It was never clear to me.

Beer in this episode: Bur Oak Lily Ale

140: Chase Taste

Beer brags like fingerprints are slowly raising. Michael has Sisyphus Blonde which reminds him of an old belove brew from yesteryear. Jeremy has good news though... this scion of said brew is still being brewed!  Jeremy then brags about a side-by-side he tried: Stone Xocoveza Charred vs. Stone Xocoveza. The results intrigue. Michael bring back the Podcast Pitch with "Raised by TV" and "Music of the Mat". Next, a hamfisted quiz about demons that we found online. Finally, the FDR.

139: Barley Winehouse

Beer Brags abound! With the Duchess and a nice, spicy, brown mustard ale. A letter then drifts out of the American Pale Male Mail Pail and we read it. The notion of the movie Junior passes and we answer the question contained within. Next, we Beer the Band! Or Artist in this case as we design a brew for the late, great Amy Winehouse. Then we realize this may be in poor taste. Speaking of taste, time for the FDR. Does this "freak beer" inspire?

Beer in this episode: Uinta Anniversary Barleywine

138: William Milo Stone

After munching on stuffing, Jeremy and Michael are back for another episode. Beer brags include tasting a sour while under the influence of miracle fruit and a brown ale from Big Grove. Next, we talk our Black Friday strategies, then naturally we move onto 80s trivia. The FDR prompts a long discussion (with sidetracking about submerged trees, Abe Lincoln, and book suggestions) about a remarkable brew.

137: Goo Pie

A late night recording, this one kicks off with talk about the classic WCW event "War Games" before getting into some beer brags. This leads into a discussion about the latest that is happening with Toppling Goliath. Next, we move onto NA (non-alcoholic) beers in NA (North America). BA (Beer Advocate) reports on breweries that are trying to break new ground with flavorful non-alcoholic beers. Next, Michael presents Jeremy with a Pie Tournament to help him select his favorite pies. Then the FDR is up, which is a little nutty (as in the beer contains pecans, not that it is crazy or off the wall).

Beer in this episode: Abita Pecan Ale

Monday, November 13, 2017

136: Skittlebräu

Beer brags commence, but with a slight twist. Michael is going LIVE with his beer brag, formulating and consuming a Skittlebräu. Jeremy gets stupid with Hop Stoopid. We then open the American Pale Male Mail Pail and get a message from a good friend. Peanut butter is debated. Skittlebräu pops back in, right before "Beer the Show", where we design a beer for a television program. After a final check in with the Skittlebräu it is time for the FDR.

135: Spit Whippin'

Let's kick it off with some beer brags: Michael tries another Oktoberfest and Jeremy goes on a trip down memory lane, trying old Brew Hoo Hoo beers. What can we do with all this leftover Halloween candy? Ruin great beers by theoretically pairing the two? Sure why not. But only after a healthy dose of cynicism. Also put down that weird "sandwich" Wolfgang made. Wolfram? Wolfsoft? Whatever. Finally, it is the FDR. We unwittingly go corporate and we unwittingly go summer.

134: Scum Dee Dum Dum

Pay off! We final reveal the ending to one of the biggest cliffhangers in American Pale Males history! But first... beer brags! Pumpkin Disorderly! Citra pilsner! Michael takes Jeremy to the Tomb of Horrors. Next, a g-g-g-g-ghost quiz. But where is the FDR? It is in the spooky cellar. Uh oh. What will happen when we go down there? Maybe nothing at all. Further discussion on pumpkin flavors, homemade ciders, and an appearance of a special guest?

133: Famous Bells

We recap Jeremy's all night horror movie fest, in terms of logistics and green coffee. Next up, beer brags, Jeremy hits us with two, a Trader Joe's Pilsner and Neopolitan Dynomite. Michael had Wayne's World. Now it's time for the news: some details on cannabidiol infused brews and the Brewers Association's pitch to buy ABInbev. Michael gives a gripping report on the world's largest bells. Why could that be?

132: Oktoberfest 3

It is our 3rd annual, traditionally overdue, Oktoberfest show. Jeremy kicks it off with horror movie talk, since tis the season. Next, beer brags on Romantic Chemistry and X-Hop. Michael has the "inside" scoop on Toppling Goliath, sorta. The Great American Beer Fest happened, so we touch on that. There's a new product in town for flavoring beer. What? Yeah, we talk about that too. Next is the F D R. Finally, some international flavor on the show, straight outta Germany.

131: All Over the Place

It is the season finale episode. That really doesn't mean anything though. Jeremy has a double extended beer brag featuring brews from Oktoberfest. Michael elects to read olde tyme beer advertisements. We then design a banquet beer. Someone who was a good friend e-mails in talking about Beerbots, style redemption, and Untappd. Also prompting discussion on Back to the Future, Blade Runner, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Let's play The Feud. Michael constructs a quiz related to the FDR for Jeremy. Then the FDR arrives. It is a vaunted one.

The show starts with a failed exbeeriment and a beer brag. Then as promised from last week, Jeremy talks about It. Then Jeremy wants to be scared by It. We discuss an article from Beer Advocate about geekiness, then break bad with a beer during the FDR.

Monday, September 4, 2017

126: World’s Funkiest Vinaigrette

The Summerian Summer Series may be over, but our summer beer brags are going strong. We have mail from a listener, prompting us to an article about the influx of pumpkin beers on store shelves. Will we be curmudgeonly? Jeremy has the inside scoop on PBR trade routes. Then an interview segment occurs that rivals Frost/Nixon. Finally, it is FDR time. We jabber for a long time.

Beer in this Episode: Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn

125: Drinking Flavor Aid

Special St. Louis Edition Beer Brag! And another one too that I can't remember right now. Then we get an update on Hooks Books. I hope you like serious, grave subject matter on a light-hearted beer drinking podcast. A good friend gets in touch with a recommendation. Finally, it is FDR time: the last of the Summerian Summer Series. Do we end the summer on a high note? Uh oh.

Beer in this Episode: Coronado Brewing Company Berry the Hatchet

Monday, August 21, 2017

124: Pineapple Zazz

Today's beer brag was a competition on who could be the most interesting. Both we remarkable in their own way and each deserve a trophy. That's right. Everyone wins. Does it make you mad? Afterwards, we embark on a variety of topics: creating a new liquor, corporate blogs, corporate buyouts, the Zion Curtain, and vaping hops/hopping vapes. Finally, the Summerian Summer Series of the Summer continues with another fruit adjunct brew.

123: As Thin As Melted Ice

Emergency intro! Not really though. We both double down on our b-brags, including some butchering of the name of styles that we have never had before. Next is Down the Cinema Aisle with Jeremy (alternating marquee lights), where he dishes on three films he saw recently. Michael then reviews a top ten list of beers that we all should probably have at some point in our life given their GRAVITAS. Finally, it is FDR time, where a friend of the show has delivered to us a special summer treat.

122: Planet of the Apricots

Reality bears harsh lessons and these beer brags are not an exception. The American Pale Male Mail Pail provides levity. And a game will certainly lighten matter too: just match the fictional beer with the television show or movie. Not enough? Well, let's try a brew. Sometimes life is just. too. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

121: The True Freak Label

From the most trusted podcast in all of podcasts, it's American Pale Males. We brag about an uncommon beer that we both had recently, but it is not the first time we have mentioned it on the show. We then Feud. Feud meaning that we discuss Family Feud. We get into the brews news, opining on the new Independent Craft Beer label. Finally, we kick off the APM Pod Summerian Series. The first of five summer-type brews in August.

120: The Lawnmower Can

It's time for a new beginning, a new season, a new summer, a new house, and a new lawnmower. Ah yes, after a joint brewery beer brag, we talk about lawnmower brews and lawnmower men. Then we get into the FDR, which is lawnmower worthy in itself.

Beer in this episode: Gaffel Kolsch

Cheers!

Monday, July 17, 2017

119: H.A.M.M.

Our car ran out of gas, so we find ourselves in gasoline alley, reviewing a gas station beer. But first, we try on a beer brag, talk some social media interactions, and review a show that harkens back to the macro glory days. Then it is time for the FDR, where a simple beer manages to command an in depth discussion.

Beer in this episode: Hamm's Beer

Cheers!

Monday, July 10, 2017

118: Cracked Rubber Bulb

You want beer brags? We got 'em. We also have debut communication from Knob of the Show. We bring back the Podcast "Pitch" to discuss the return of Nerd Poker. Then we talk about an article about beer expiration dating which was modestly informative. Finally, we have an FDR session.

Beer in this episode: Golden Road Wolf Pup Session

Monday, July 3, 2017

117: This Here's a Belgian Beer

Do not be deceived by the calm manner that the show starts out with... that does not last very long. We bumble our way through beer brags, book recommendations, serialized novels, and video nasties. Then we hit the FDR where we try a beer that greatly intrigues us. Unfortunately, we did not do a lot of research about it, so we don't really know what we are talking about.

Beer in this episode: Vanderghinste

Cheers!

Monday, June 26, 2017

116: Pear Technology

Forgot to refill the grill pellets... oh no. The rump roast won't finish now. Grills aside, we have a beer brag, then talk about the most underrated breweries in each state. Next it is off to the FDR, where we get back into the world of ciders for the first time in over a year.

Beverage in this episode: Crispen Original Cider

Cheers!

Monday, June 19, 2017

115: I'm Right or Sinusitis

There is some beer brags, but Jeremy surreptitiously hijacks the segment to talk about going to a Metallica concert. And why not? New segment alert: Pint-Counterpint. We kick it off by debating the de/merits of a O'Douls Power Hour. Finally, we FDR an IPA that has had an image change.

Beer in this episode: New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA

Cheers!

Monday, June 12, 2017

114: Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate

It is bad news brews all over again as we talk about the shuttering of one of our favorite brew pubs and an unfortunate corporate acquisition. But at least we have Beer the Band to pick up our mood a little bit. We also have an explosive beer for the FDR, but is it enough to lift our spirits to the max?

Beer in this episode: Firetrucker Burnout Brown

Cheers!

Monday, June 5, 2017

113: The Pollen Zone

The American Pale Male book club is back with a few recommendations for you, the listener. Then we remembered the podcast is about beer, so we bragged about some we had. Then we Beer the Band - Jeremy has to design a beer for a random band on the spot. After that, it is time for the FDR, which is a different style from what we normally have on the show. Oh yes.

Beer in this episode: Reunion Pub Ale

Monday, May 29, 2017

112: Missoura/i

We open today's show by opening some books and then discussing them. What's that? Oh you write something better then. Then Jeremy brings us Part I of his Dark Lord beer brags. Michael discovers a surprise overseas and discusses a mysterious series of beers he found there. Then we get into the FDR and the state of Missouri as we ponder a curious brew.

Beer in this episode: Boulevard Show Me Sour

Cheers!

Monday, May 22, 2017

111: Hop Cacophony

We are back from our "break" though you may have not noticed. Michael regales with tales of foreign ales (actually they were lagers) while Jeremy broke various bones in his body. The future is bright though, or should I say, dark, because Dark Lord Day weekend is neigh (at the time of the recording). Jeremy reports in with a preview. Then we have a magical mystery e-mail, which helps us addend our past mistakes. Finally, it's the FDR, where we take it to the extreme.

Beer in this episode: Sixpoint Resin

Cheers!

Monday, May 15, 2017

110: Triple Five Alarm Chili

Jeremy goes sour for his beer brag and Michael tries an American version of a Belgian standard. The convo gets derailed though, as we talk about music genres. A massive crane puts the train back on the rails as it head to Second Segment Town, where we have a meandering conversation about movie remakes. The train then plows into FDRville, where we encounter a beer given to us by a listener.

Beer in this episode: Stone Xocoveza

Monday, May 8, 2017

109: Baphomet-esque

Did you see that Star Wars teaser a month ago? We did and we talk about it... sort of... more so the franchise in general. We are too cool to squabble over minutia. Then we get into beer brags and talk about beer, like we should do. Then there is a heavily edited segment that barely made the show... so enjoy that! Then we go to hell, or was it Utah, for the FDR.

Beer in this episode: Squatter's Hell's Keep Golden Ale

Cheers!

Monday, May 1, 2017

108: Spinning Newspaper Says: Controversy!

Good morrow. Jeremy brings a beer brag to the table, but Michael dodges the segment by speculating on 0 IBU IPAs. Michael seeks validation by popping a quiz that Mike popped last year. What'll pop up next? Pop Secret Pop Qwiz Popcorn. Finally, it is the FDR... a beer style that we have not had in a while. Jeremy is openly skeptical, but Michael is game.

Beer in this episode: De Stihl Weissenheimer Hefeweizen

Monday, April 24, 2017

107: Old Man of the Week

Beer brags this week involve our homebrew experiments. Those are my favorite. Next, we introduce a new segment... (Crotchety) Old Man of the Week and the inaugural inductee is incredible. Finally, we try our hand at an IPA for the FDR, except this time, Michael is singing its praises... what!?

Beer in this episode: Surly Furious

Cheers!

Monday, April 17, 2017

106: Chasing the Dragon

We brag about some beers, then Jeremy tries to persuade Michael to listen to a podcast in a revival of The Podcast Pitch. We get right into this week's brew with talking about the memories that we have with this classic, then get into the FDR proper. After a meandering discussion, we arrive at some sort of conclusion. Cleopatra's Mummy is mentioned at some point. Describing beers is hard.

Beer in this episode: Newcastle Brown Ale

105: Number 9ing It

Happy Anniversary two us. We are celebrating the end of our second year of podcasts by essentially doing what we do every episode. However, this time we have some stats and figures and a PowerPoint presentation in conference room B after lunch. A (g)host from the past e-mails in and takes us to task. Then we Find, Rate, and Drink a beer.

Beer in this episode: Magic Hat #9

Monday, April 3, 2017

104: The Ice Cream Barge

Whooooooooomp. That's a barge or a train. You'll hear them and other ambience in this outdoor face-to-face recording. We muster out some beer... brags? Or just beer mentions this week. Then we talk about ice cream. Then we get into an FDR that left us a little... well, you'll see. *curtain parts*

Beer in this episode: New Belgium Cherry Almond Ale

Cheers!

Monday, March 27, 2017

103: The Pirate Cannon

Join us for a face-to-face recording right by the Mississippi River. We talk dubbels and coconut beers, review a quiz about pirates, then switch over to the Find, Drink, Rate (FDR) segment of the show. Keep an ear out for the cannon that startles us during the episode.

Beer in this episode: Piraat

Cheers!

Monday, March 20, 2017

102: That Statue of the Boy Peeing

We kick it off bragging about beers, which leads to alleged jape throwing and memories of European travels. Jeremy learns of Manneken Pis, much to his surprise. From there, the memories flow like sands through the hour glass (so are the days of our lives) because we reminiscence about 90s childhood PC gaming. We stop ourselves before diving too deep, so that we may proceed with the FDR.

Beer in this episode: Lagunitas Pils

Cheers!

Monday, March 13, 2017

101: Fear the Green Beer

By all reports, this should be our St. Patrick's Day episode and while we do get into SPD a little bit, we have our sights set on other objectives this episode. Scientific objectives. Like, what happens when this beer warms up? What is making this taste so poorly? If we dye it green, will that do anything? Join us as we explore the obvious on this episode of American Pale Males.

Beer in this episode: Steel Reserve

Cheers!

Monday, March 6, 2017

100: Barnburner

It is our 100th episode! Looks like we made it! I guess so anyway. Michael says "barnburner" too much in this episode, which is why it is also the title. We also have lots of segments packed into this one, including beer brags, the Week in Geek, Part 2 of Jeremy on the Aisle: The Oscars, a convoluted quiz segment, and of course the FDR, which is long and drawn out. The beer deserves it though, because it is a good one, worthy of our 100th episode. What could it be? Listen in and find out... or just read the next line that tells you what the beer is.

Beer in this episode: Trappistes Rochefort 10

Cheers!

Monday, February 27, 2017

099: The Old Man and the Mop Water

Lights! Camera! Action! APM Goes Hollywood! Other clichés. Jeremy talks about the Academy Award Best Picture Nominees that he saw. This episode will air after the awards, so I guess we botched that one. Still, it is a good (p)review of the nominees, so listen to it. He has a bone to pick with one of the movies. A chicken wing bone tossed in old mop water. Is that imagery too disgusting? Well, just wait until we get to the FDR, where a certain mysterious old man meets a sad fate.

Beer in this episode: Bell's Kalamazoo Stout

Cheers!

Monday, February 20, 2017

098: The Science Hole

Things get experimental in this episode. Michael tries the "Bloody Michael" while Jeremy listens in horror. Speaking of blood... we bleed too! Or at least talk about when we have bled. (Note: This segment may not be for the squeamish). Michael then breaks out into an impromptu lab session in the middle of the FDR. Jeremy swerves the audience with his rating.

Beer in this episode: Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin'

Cheers!

Monday, February 13, 2017

097: Burst Processing

Sega Genesis may have had blast processing, but in this episode we invent burst processing. Or at least we make the term up. Maybe some day we'll actually have a definition for it. For now though, we sample a beer that uses "hop bursting" to deliver quite the punch of hop flavor. Also featured is Hooks Books (Jeremy's braggadocious book segment), the return of FACE, and... a quiz about the old animated series Gargoyles?

Beer in this episode: Stone Go To IPA

Cheers!

Monday, February 6, 2017

096: Kick It with a Tasty Groove

Could you one time kick it, Kyle!? There is a delicious fruity beer at the end of this episode, but before that, other things happen. Michael talks about his progress in fermenting tomato juice, while Jeremy has to be all debonair and talk about how he is brewing a vanilla porter. I mean who does this guy think he is, the king of France? Jeremy also discusses having Peppermint Victory at Sea. Then Michael asks for advice in the ways of meat. Then the FDR happens.

Beer in this episode: Green Flash Passion Fruit Kicker

Cheers!

Monday, January 30, 2017

095: Adequately Prepared to Rumble

Let’s get "Ready to Rumble"! On second thought, we should get another movie instead. That one is pretty bad. Michael kicks off the card with a brag about FIVE STAR brew. Jeremy faces off with a brewery that he previously was tepid on, but has now gained his approval. They then square off with a quiz about the the professional wrestling event known as the Royal Rumble. The fight continues over the FDR when a bunch of herbs and botanicals enter the ring.

Beer in this episode: Deschutes Brewery Sagefight

Monday, January 23, 2017

094: Would You Like to Play a Game?

Would you like to play a game? Because we have enough in this episode to satisfy your inner Billy the Puppet. We've got a new game called FACE, The Box Office Mojo Game, and a quiz related to the FDR. Also, the Pale Male Pail makes an appearance. Ah yes, ain't that fresh.

Beer in this episode: Karben4 Brewing Dragon Flute

Cheers!

Monday, January 16, 2017

093: This Bud's for Me

Jeremy and Michael take a look, in a book, a reading rainbow... a reading rainbow! No, really, they read the book Bitter Brew by William Knoedelseder, all about the rise and "fall" of the Busch family dynasty. In honor of said book, they have a beer with a legacy to match. But, you don't have to take my word for it. Bababum!

Beer in this episode: Budweiser

Cheers!

Monday, January 9, 2017

092: Widow's Watch

Hey, do you remember Zoboomafoo? Because Jeremy had no idea what I was talking about (see the beer brag segment for more details). Jeremy makes up for it by outclassing Michael’s Week in Geek by like 1000%. And after a fight to the death against the Machine (it’s back!), the Males take off to the Great White North this episode, trying out a Canadian classic.
Beer in this episode: Moosehead Lager

091: The Year in Beer 2016

Happy New Year! Happy New Beer! In this very special episode, we look back at 2016 with the first annual Draft Beer Beer Draft. We also look forward (we can do this because we have two eyes) to the future, setting some new beers resolutions and discussing the future of the podcast. Plus a special announcement from Mike. He was a good friend.

Cheers!
