090: The Beers of Christmas Past, Present, and Future

It is a Christmas miracle! Or maybe a belated Festivus miracle. Or maybe just a regular series of events that were thought out in advance... regardless of how it happened, we do know that it is another seasonally themed episode of the show. This time, with brand new special guests. Our heroes embark on a journey that brings them face-to-face with the beers of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come. It would almost be a little harrowing, but the boisterous cheers of people playing Uno in the background takes the edge off a little bit.

089: It Doesn’t Rock

Happy Christmas, Ron! Or Happy --insert preferred celebration here--, really. We have a special bonus with this episode… Yes, it features Jeremy and Michael, but there is a special Christmas surprise too! A regular Festivus Miracle! We talk Mario, our favorite songs of the season, and of course beer. It’s a good one too. (wink emoji) (Christmas tree emoji) (snowman emoji)

088: Bad News Beers

I heard the news today, oh boy. Actually by the time this comes out, it won’t be news, it will be olds, but it is an important discussion for a beer podcast. We then drown our sorrows with a uniquely flavors quaff from Sixpoint. Also in the news: Michael poaches a beer brag from Jeremy, sending him to the Asylum. This just in, we talk about ASAPScience and ECW too.

087: Bits and Bobs

Here comes the money. Not burying the lead today: We try a currency related beer after a currency related quiz. Of course we have the usual beer brags (Michael had a strange combo of styles) and our Week in Geek (talking about an older, but good video game in light of recent news) too… but you came here for the beer, right?

086: Two Versions of Me, In Hop Form

We begin with Michael bragging about an unusual amber and Jeremy talking about some of that sticky-icky (fat) from his favorite Chicago brewery. Michael continues his YouTube science channel series and Jeremy hypes up a demonological show very worthy of the Week in Geek label. The scariness continues with a quiz on horror films. We then get into the FDR, which Michael and Jeremy are highly anticipating as it is a single hop, single malt brew. Does simplicity equal serendipity? There’s only one way to find out.

085: My Goo! The Thanksgiving Special

It is our Thanksgiving spectacular! We start off we beer brags fit for a feast (did somebody say five stars?) and some Thanksgiving talk. For the Week in Geek, Michael talks about some pumpkin spice dishes he’s been making for the season. Jeremy opens the floodgates about a metal show he went to, which elicits an impromptu quiz. Michael returns the favor with the “official” quiz that ties into the FDR. Finally, the FDR itself is perfect for the season and offers a chance at redemption for pumpkin beers.

084: Check Out My Can

...as in, beer can. But more of that later. We start out with some beer brags, including one from the vaunted Toppling Goliath. Michael starts a new series for the Week in Geek that focuses on good science channels on YouTube. Jeremy discusses “The Fireman” which spills into a conversation about Stephen King. Yes, an actual discussion about literature. Next is the “Check Out My Can” Quiz, which blends the FDR segment with some general knowledge questions. Then we sample this week’s beer and it is quite delicious.

083: Rodney Shoots Bertrum

Coming hot off the heels of a Halloween candy induced coma, The Males are back at it again. We have some rip-roaring beer brags featuring flatulent insects and some beers sampled at an Oktoberfest (some good, some not-so-hot). We then discuss our Top 3 Mario games of all time… the choices my surprise you. Jeremy then discusses a show he highly recommends, Mr. Robot, then pops a quiz on wrestling gimmicks (and I mean it this time). Finally, the FDR features a beer that is a bit “off color”. Was that too obvious?

082: Deep Fried Halloween Candy

Welcome to American Pale GHOULS! That doesn’t really work, does it? Unlike that pun, we did make an earnest effort for this Halloween special. Michael and Jeremy sample some homebrews that they made, including the much discussed grapefruit cider and What’s the Rhubarb II: Urban Harvest. After some back-slapping, we move to the kitchen where we deep fry and sample some Halloween standards. Finally, we lose our heads over the FDR beer. Well, not really, but if we had, it would have made a great pun.

081: Is It John Candy or Not?

On this podcast we try Polygamy. It was pretty good. We recommend everyone try it. Now that the trite double-entendre is out of the way, here’s what else is on this ep. Michael gives an update on the grapefruit cider project. Jeremy drank a wit and may be seeing John Candy. We then discuss the new season of South Park and have a new Podcast Pitch. We then try our hand at some Simpsons Trivia, which may be a bit too deep of a dive, but oh well. Finally, it is FDR time (see above).

080: Crazy Neighbor Steve

Has this ever happened to you? Michael and Jeremy are enjoying pleasant conversation, bragging about beers, talking about geeky stuff, when the crazy next door neighbor peeks over the white picket fence and invites himself over. Then again, we were in the crazy neighbor’s yard when it happened… so I guess that is fair. This episode we have a wrestling Podcast Pitch, a report from Riotfest, and a quiz about said Riotfest. Not a music fan? Well, in that case, hopefully you like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The FDR features a uniquely made beer, which gives The Males something to ponder over.

079: Machine Dance of Death

We are a basement for this recording! And it is late at night! ...So the show is low key, but still packed with awesome features, including a new quiz segment that raises the stakes. Michael recommends an excellent and accessible trippel, while Jeremy’s beer brag inspires a visit “to the Internet!” The Males then reminisce about tailgating memories, as it is college football season. We the premier the “Machine Dance of Death” quiz, where the loser must FDR a terrible mystery beer… and it was terrible. We then get back to the good stuff with an FDR, but with an additional criteria: Will it tailgate?

078: Oktoberfest 2

We are once again back for a live face-to-face recording. When I say "we" I mean Michael and Jeremy of course, while Mike is being a dad and stuff. We kick it off with some beer brags. Michael had an imperial... pilsner? And Jeremy had something local from a brewpub. Michael then consults Jeremy for thoughts on brewing a "cider" while Jeremy talks about a movie that shocked him like nothing else before. Also, it is Oktoberfest time! We line up our quiz and FDR accordingly.

077: Blind Man Birthday Dance 2

It's a new day. It's a new generation.

While Mike retreats to his manor to tend to his new fatherly responsibilities (Congrats, Mike!) APM Pod superfan, now officially turned host, Jeremy steps in for a face-to-face recording. The show starts familiarly with Michael bragging about a brett beer and Jeremy doubling down with a Double Two-Hearted. Things get geeky, with a podcast pitch for Whistlestop and mic talk (not Mike talk). Finally, for the FDR, the Blind Man Birthday Dance returns! Each host blindly samples a beer that the other provides, with some intriguing results.

After a failed attempt by Mike at a weird alternate version of the podcast, the boys jump right into Episode 76 with a few Beer Brags. Next, Michael talks about another Griffin McElroy/Polygon web series, while Mike highlights TV shows from the US and abroad. Then, a few short pieces of mail from the Pale Mailbag, and finally, the FDR: a brew from Jolly Old England that is still delivered there by horse-drawn carriage!

Next, the boys each discuss a TV show for the Week in Geek, and Mike adds in a new tech toy to his portion of the segment as well. Then, fresh off their victory against the machines, Michael decides to take the battle back to a PvP format and challenges Mike with a quiz about citrus fruits. Finally, the FDR: an oft-mentioned beer that tastes like the quiz topic, but without any actual fruit ingredients!

074: Lucky Boy

Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! Today's ep begins with a few more Beer Brags for Mike courtesy of Friend of the Show Doug, followed by a very highly rated Tripel that Michael sipped on recently. Next, Mike takes the Brag portion into the Week in Geek as he talks about some recent video game acquisitions, while Michael also brings the Brag with some recent geocaching accomplishments. Then, with time possibly running out for Mike to be the co-host, the boys try to emerge victorious in Mikes vs. Machine while the title of that segment is still apt! Finally, the FDR: a reincarnated version of an Indiana classic brew.

073: I've Consulted My Personal Starlogs

Welcome back for another week! Michael starts things off by sharing a beer brag from The Beehive State, while Mike somewhat hearkens back to last week's sour episode with a sour brag of his own. Next, Michael talks about a video series from the website Polygon, while Mike relates some recent life changes for the Week in Geek, which leads to a new segment called State of the Podcast, where the hosts make a bombshell announcement. Then, Michael quizzes Mike on some old Windows games that you may have played in years past while bored in the computer lab. Finally, the FDR: where Michael straight up lies to the audience.

070: Barbecue Reachability

Michael kicks off today's episode with some exciting details from his recent trip to Ireland! It's a regular coup as Michael combines his Beer Brags and his Week in Geek with info from Ireland before Mike has a chance to give his own additions to the segments. Next, the fellows open the old Pale Mailb(r)ag, and are pleasantly surprised to find quite a few pieces inside! Finally, the FDR: an Irish beer that Michael had to return to the States to find.

Michael regales everyone with more Beer Brags from Colorado (The Golden Chalice State), while Mike also throws back to last week's tasting for his own brags. Next, Michael peaks with his Week in Geek Brag, while Mike talks about some geeky acquisitions that were made possible with his Amazon Mechanical Turk money. Then, Mike finally gets off his rear end and gives Michael a short quiz that leads right into the FDR- a beer that you might expect to be mixed in a metal cup!

Next, Michael relates some buzz marketing he did while at pub trivia, and Mike attempts to stay relatively current with a Netflix recommendation for the Week in Geek. The boys then take a trip to the Mail Door vis-à-vis the Pale Mailbag, with pieces from Friends of the Show Jake and Jeremy (and some person on YouTube). At last, it's time for the FDR, an old gateway beer for both of the hosts during their early beer drinking days.

067: How Do You Do, Fellow Kids?

Mike begins the show relating a Homebrew Beer Brag, while Michael mentions a find in his fridge of unknown origin. Next, Mike's Week in Geek involves computer operating systems and TV in bed, while Michael speaks on a British Broadcasting Corporation show. Then, our heroes take on the machine once again in Mikes Vs. Machine (spoiler: it doesn't go well). Finally, the FDR: a brew from the Southern US that may have something in common with a greyhound.

Next, Michael regales his time during a sitcom-themed trivia night for the Week in Geek, while Mike speaks of his experience doing some cheap labor. Then, Michael shares some information during a recent Wikihole dive which has a tenuous tie to today's FDR/New Deal, a brew that definitely breaks the streak of recent reviews in the three and four star range.

Next, Watch The Thrones makes its return to the show as the boys discuss the recent finale and the season as a whole. Then, will it be a Rise of the Machines in Mikes Vs. Next, Michael tests Mike's knowledge on a particular US State (and is very generous with considering Mike's answers close to being correct) that hints towards this episode's brew.
